NBA Power Rankings
Data-driven NBA team ratings calculated from historical game results and mathematical modeling.
It’s early in the season, so ratings still lean partly on last season’s results (counted as about 9 games per team). That share shrinks every day and is gone by spring.
How to read this table
- Rating
- How many points better or worse than an average NBA team the model thinks a team is, on a neutral court. A +6.0 team would be expected to beat a +2.0 team by about 4 points at a neutral site. The bar shows the same number: right of the center line is above average, left is below.
- W-L
- Regular-season record. The rating can disagree with it, because it also counts margins and opponents.
- SOS
- Strength of schedule: the average rating of the opponents a team has played. Higher means a harder schedule so far.
- 7-day
- How much the team’s rating moved over the past week. It measures rating change, not a win streak.
Home-court advantage is currently worth +1.4 points. Ratings come from 139 games this season. How Pete Ratings works
